Get ready for winter driving

When winter rolls around, it will be important to be prepared for it!  There are some great winter tips we want to offer you to make sure you’re ready for driving your vehicle in the Michigan winter weather.  Your Honda vehicle is equipped with plenty of great features to help you handle the snow and the ice, but you should remember to keep up with the care and maintenance to fully keep yourself safe when driving in slippery conditions.

If you ever find yourself on the side of the road during the winter, you should be prepared with a winter emergency kit.  You can even build your own!  Some things that would work well in your emergency kit include a blanket, jumper cables, water and dried snacks, flashlight, and a multi-tool of some sort.  You should always also try and keep a phone charger with you, or make sure your phone is fully charged when you go for a drive.

There are several important parts to check on your Honda vehicle.  Those include your antifreeze and other fluids to make sure there are no leaks.  Your battery should be checked and even changed if there is an issue.  Your heater elements should be inspected too because nothing’s worse than finding there is no heat in your vehicle on a cold Michigan morning!  Finally, your tires need to be filled properly and the tread needs to be ready for the slippery conditions.  Try the penny test to test your tread depth!  Take a penny and put it into your tread.  If you can see the top of Abraham Lincoln’s head, your tread isn’t safe for the road and it’s time for new tires.

When you’re ready to bring your Honda vehicle into Thelen Honda in Bay City, Michigan, we have an amazing team of technicians standing by with the knowledge of just how your Honda should be operating optimally.  Make sure to bring your Honda in for a full inspection at Thelen Honda to know it’s properly prepared for the wintertime!
